Be it a rich businessman or a poverty stricken student or an elderly living alone, the corona virus pandemic has affected all of us. For some like the elderly, the consequences of these tough times would be worse than others, therefore there is a need for a movement that could help older people feel more secure about their future.

In times like the corona virus pandemic the concept of social protection comes into limelight. The United Nations Research Institute For Social Development defines social protection as a concept concerned with preventing, managing, and overcoming situations that adversely affect people’s well-being. It won’t be wrong to say that Social protection for all the people around the world regardless of their socioeconomic background, gender and age is the need of the hour. 

There have been a number of initiatives taken before by organisations like International Labour Organisations and the united nations but they lack implementation and inclusivity as 71% of people are still not covered under social protection. These initiatives are also not focused on Corona virus sufferers like the older people.

Ergo the urgent need for a global fund which would focus on the problems of older people because of Corona virus and would play a key role in the global response against the pandemic can be satisfied with the GLOBAL FUND FOR SOCIAL PROTECTION, which is a global civil society that aims the social protection of older people. The older generation need more care and attention as they are more vulnerable to the virus and are constantly looked over, ignored and neglected. 

 The Global Fund for social protection should be established because it aims at providing a floor for social protection for older people in the times of covid-19. This fund would be used to fight COVID 19 where resources might lack and situations are worse. This fund would help in overcoming problems like food, financial and emotional insecurity among the elder generation.

We, The DADI DADA foundation, support and endorse the Global fund for social protection for older people because we feel that this global fund for social protection would help in establishing a better future for older people and would work towards the betterment of their situation. We feel there is nothing that couldn’t be achieved if all of us unite together and work towards it. With better implementation and support for organizations from all over the world a better today can be established.
